I submitted to SPQ and received a 4-reviewer rejection in about seven weeks. One of the reviews was very short and unhelpful, but the other three were thorough.

Getting rejected was a drag, but three of the reviews were constructive, and GAF's editorial letter was candid and thoughtful.

Echoing the sentiments here, GAF and the people behind SPQ are running the journal superbly. It would be great if this kind of effort, care and professionalism would diffuse throughout other sociology journals.

I've only once submitted a manuscript to SPQ. For this submission,
1) reviews were returned to us in two months (fastest turn around time I've ever experienced)
2) reviewers' comments were constructive and on point;
3) the editor wrote an incredibly clear and helpful letter of decision (indeed, after reading it I was INSPIRED to do the requested revisions).
In sum, a great experience!

I submitted to SPQ and had the same experience. My paper was rejected outright, but the reviews were constructive and the editor's "meta-review" was helpful.

I have also reviewed for this journal and received very helpful, direct instructions.

My submission experience was equally joyous (with the minor exception of having my manuscript rejected.
-I actually submitted there with the expectation of being rejected. It was a long shot.
-The editor (Gary Alan Fine) sent me a three page single-spaced rejection letter that made me feel HAPPY and PROUD of my work
-Here's an excerpt from the letter:

"Understandably, such an outcome [rejection] could be taken as bad news, and, at first blush, it would be hard to see it any other way.
However, senior scholars understand that research is a part of a dialogue; a paper draft is not an end in itself.
As I read these comments, and based upon my own reading, there is a collective sense that we do not wish for you
to give up on the project, but to refine it both methodologically and theoretically, collect more data, and
provide a strong and sleek argument."

submitted and received an R&R in 6 weeks! Very quick turnaround and also very helpful comments from Gary Alan Fine. Great comments from reviewers, too.

Gary continues to set the standard for journal editing. I received a rejection in only 8 weeks with a total of 6+ pages of helpful feedback. One reviewer was not so good, but the comments from the editor and managing editor were great!

I have submitted to SPQ 3 times and been rejected 3 times. however, the feedback from both reviewers and the editor has been excellent! by far the best feedback i have received. go GAF!!!
