I'm a reviewer for G&S and found them to have clear instructions and low turn-around times, both for reviewers and authors. Specifically, I mean that I felt the need to promptly return my review of the paper to the journal and that the reviews were quickly sent out to the author for possible revisions. I was impressed with the professionalism of the editorial staff in a way that I haven't been for other journals.

2 months for rejection: extremely helpful reviews, which enabled me to turn around the paper in 2 weeks and submit to another journal. I also review for the journal and do my best to turn reviews around quickly.

Off topic:
In terms of tips for authors, I would advise making sure that your paper is strongly structured and contains a coherent, immediately apparent argument. Some of the papers I've read have made me want to bang my head against the wall because the research question/thesis statement didn't come until nearly halfway through the paper (and without any warning). That sort of disorganization does not lead to a happy review.

To add to this topic, I advise authors to be very clear about the contribution their work makes to the gender literature. Sexuality research must have a clear gender component.

I am also a reviewer for G&S. In my opinion, they have been giving R&Rs to papers that have a very low
likelihood of being eventually accepted lately. I have seen a paper get an R&R, the author do most of the
suggested revisions, and then be rejected. So my advice is not to take an R&R from this journal too seriously-
even if you do all of the revisions, the R&R may be rejected. I do not think journals should do this to people,
but they do.

3 months for a rejection with 3 extremely helpful sets of comments from reviewers, along with additional comments from the Deputy Editor. I very much appreciated the promptness and professionalism. Their online submission and tracking is also easy to use. Wish everybody would make the leap!

2.5 months for a conditional acceptance with helpful feedback for improving the manuscript. The editor accepted the revised manuscript 3 weeks later.
