The clockwork are a race of entirely mechanical beings. They consist of an array of gears, springs, and cogs
so complex that it verges on intelligence. They do not use traditional electricity, but run on a series of
hyper efficient motion transfer systems to move and transform energy. They push the boundary between race and
machine to the point where it does not exist, and can be considered as much a part of the non-humanoid devices
in their arsenal that they use. When they exist in their sub-sentient form, they are a part of one giant
machine that is the Clockwork. Moving with perfect precision, they perform tasks with a certainty of purpose
that no human could possibly match. The only drawback being that a majority of their race is very inflexible.
Individual components of their race find it extremely difficult to adapt to circumstances in which they were
not designed to operate. If a component goes missing, and nothing detects that it is gone, the clockwork will
continue blindly as if it was still there and functioning perfectly. The Clockwork generate their individual
energy through a cascading system of gears that generates more energy as it is used up by using existing energy
in a paradoxical loop. If a clockwork were to cease all movement on all gears, they would lie inert until some
small force set the gears into even a small amount of motion. These general concepts may be applied to every
machine/being in their race. The materials clockwork are made of vary, depending on what was available at the
time of their construction. This will be explained later.
The Clockwork were created by the Watchmaker, one of the council of god-beings set in place to regulate the
sentient races of different galaxies. The Watchmaker foresaw a great force of destruction moving towards the
galaxy he shared with a majority of the council. In order to save all of their creations, he created the
Clockwork to convert all of the planets at the edge of the galaxy into a defense system to shield it from the
oncoming destruction. Before this point, creating sentience was a long and arduous process involving millions
of years and strings of complex proteins. In his design for his race, the Watchmaker managed to create
sentience from mechanical components in a relatively short 40 years. One of the other beings, Harctus
envied the technology of the Watchmaker, and used intrigue to disrupt the council and attempt to take it for
himself. The Watchmaker foresaw the plan, but was unable to prevent the destruction of the council. Using what
power remained to him, he sent the Clockwork out into the galaxy, so that they might finish the defense grid
in time. With that, the Clockwork were that last race to be artificially introduced into the galaxy.
The Clockwork were designed to move from one planet to another, converting each one they move to into a
Defense Platform. Once a planet is fully converted, it begins construction of
Megashells. Once it has constructed a large number of these shells, the planet uses its sensors and locks
on to several planets. Since the Megashells travel at just less then light speed, it takes thousands of years
to traverse the distance between planets. Thus a complicated system of telemetry gears alters the firing arc
of the cannon to where the planet should be when the shell arrives there. This system has a 99% success rate
for distances less then 5,000 light years, and becomes generally ineffective for distances over 50,000 light
years. Once the trajectory is altered, the planet begins firing Megashells multiple times a day for a span of years.
A massive number of clockwork soldiers are deployed on a planet through this method, though Extreme variances in both speed
and number have been recorded in either direction. On impact the shells deploy all clockwork and begin digging towards
the molten core of the planet. Once this is achieved, the forge has a nearly limitless amount of metal to operate with, and
begins upgrading to a Level 4 Forge, production of more clockwork, and the transformation of the planet into
a Defense Platform.Once the conversion is complete, it prepares to fire on several other planets.
