Prince Gerard

Gerard has the ability to make hard decisions and stick with them. He is a very determined Prince when he sets his mind to something. He says what he does and doesn't promise what he can't deliver. He does not allow grudges to make him lose sight of who is family, but neither does he particularly trust his family. When Gerard takes risks, like the rest of his family, it will be a calculated risk with a specific result in mind. Gerard is just as political as the rest of the family, but keeps his politics to the background and secondary in favor of his more human face and attempts to always keep his perspective when dealing with family members. This often makes him a good neutral party to appeal to or as an arbitrator for family members. This can lead family members to underestimate him, which Gerard is quite capable of playing into, if it gives him an advantage he wants.

He is also Admiral of the Fleet along with his brother, Caine. Caine and Gerard often overlap duties, so although Gerard is more well-known for his administration and leadership of the navy than Caine, Gerard has pulled off more than one trade deal which has been the envy of his brother. So when Gerard sits down at the negotiation table, lookout! He knows what he's doing.

Gerard as a Parent

There is plenty of carefree laughter with Gerard as a parent. This doesn't make him less involved with the darker side of his family, but perhaps suggests he is able to keep himself balanced and keep his priorities in order better than most. Like Caine, he will be around regularly but also with absences while he is away at sea. He imparts a realistic but more optimistic outlook on life than perhaps Caine does. He teaches that not all the family can be trusted and yet they are all family and the latter does matter. Gerard would give his child a wide variety of experiences from which to draw, some of them just for fun - again, rather unlike Caine, and Gerard is more forgiving of mistakes if his child learns from them, than either Caine or Julian.
