[[ladiesonthelawn]] Chain Of Assumptions

Route:[[ladiesonthelawn]]

Corradina walks into the copse of trees the ladies use as an exercise area dressed as she tends to for fencing. Like her papa.

Dina's pants are black and simple, tucked into supple leather boots. She wears a white tunic with the sleeves tied up her arms at intervals with black stips of cloth. The tunic is tucked into the pants and it's all nicely held together with a black belt. This morning her hair is loose.

Dina looks well rested and like she's enjoyed her breakfast - she has the glow of laughter, or something, about her person.

Dina nods to Miho and paces, stretches, and paces while Miho prepares herself.

Miho is already there when Dina arrives, dark hair pulled back in a long thick braid which falls to the small of her back. She stretches in silence, a complicated series of flowing moves that combine techniques learned as a young child with techniques learned while onboard ship... with a sheen overlaid from courtly training. She wears a split skirt, tucked back into her boots to keep it tighter to her body. A vest is laced comfortably tight for a bodice, long cotton sleeves tight to her arms, clothes of white and brown.

She reaches the end of her movement and pauses to smile at Dina, nodding with a half bow. "Cousin," she greets her softly.

"Well met, Miho," her cousin returns in her husky soprano. Corradina smiles and turns her face to the sun momentarily. Turning that smile back on Miho, she bends over to stretch one last time before standing and picking up her weapon, a rapier.

Dina grins. "Let's fight."

Miho bows once, then levels her blade, a long slender thing made servicable and neat, with little decoration. It follows no style but her own amalgam. Balanced lightly on her feet, she waits for Dina to move to the ready position, and then she slowly begins to circle, a smile lighting her lips as she decides whether to take offense or defense.

Dina takes that decision away by going on the offense fairly quickly with fast sudden slashes. As usual, Dina starts with flare and style - it's all very pretty. Miho knows though she'll eventually settle into a more utilitarian means of trying to win the match.

Miho leaps into the fray, concentrating at first on defense, keeping Dina's pretty slashes at bay while seeking the occasional offensive strike. Miho's work is nowhere near as pretty, nor fast, but her blade swings as if she is used to a heavier one, and her feet are fleet and even. With a slight smile on her lips, and a faint frown drawing her brows together, Miho simply stays afloat until she judges it is time, and tries to turn the tables on Dina with quiet surprise.

Dina absorbs the first few blows, and knows enough to fall back and not try to stand there while her arms just get tired out. She smiles the whole way, and moves to try to lead the fight to where the ground slopes.

Miho follows, but before Dina can get the height advantage on her, she tries to duck in and catch Dina's blade with her hilt and twist close.

Dina seems to just let it happen, and then she calls a halt. "You know, I don't feel like this today. Let's go for a walk or a ride or... anything."

Miho lets her blade drop away. "Of course." She steps back, and sheathes the weapon, then bows slightly. Her smile is friendly. "Horses would be fine, or if you wish something different for yourself, we could sail. Is there aught on your mind, cousin?" The question holds concern for the elder of the two.

"I'm just restless. Sailing sounds good to me. It would be different. I don't know a thing about sailing. You've been sailing all your life, haven't you?" Dina asks, sheathing her sword. She starts walking in the general direction of the gates when Miho is ready.

Miho follows soon after. "Not quite all. My mother died, and my father took me aboard ship when I was a child. But it is long enough to seem like much of my life." She smiles. "I am more comfortable on water than land. If you have not sailed, you should sometime, on a larger ship than mine. Learn your balance there... it will change the way you work your blade."

"I'll have to try that sometime," Dina smiles. "Do you remember much of your mother?"
