Today I talked with Emilee Whitehurst (the Rev. Emilee Whitehurst, that is). She is the Executive Director of Austin Area Interreligious Ministries (AAIM).
She is quite the mover and shaker and is very concerned with the racism she sees in Austin, especially between the white and African-American communities. AAIM has recently kicked off an "initiative" to get members of the "religious" community (those folks who belong to some kind of religious institution) to acknowledge and to work on reducing the amount of racism in Austin.
She would very much like to host a potluck to tell as many people as possible about a series of community-building, racism-busting events that AAIM has planned for the coming months.
She told me to tell her what month was available and then she would find a place that could accomodate up to 200 people.
She would also publicize the potluck to the AAIM email list which has over 3,000 members.
Sounds like an excellent opportunity for us to spead the word and grow the Potluckers, eh?
So, could we do this potluck some time this late summer? This might mean bumping Boggy Creek Farm, for example, until a later month.
