I had submitted a paper to AMJ that eventually got published at JAP. Quick turnaround - under two months - but had 1 high quality, 1 Ok and shockingly bad reviewer.
The third reviewer appeared to not have read the paper and seemed like a rather junior grad student. Was trying to be too technical, and even urged us to cite studies that were cited multiple times.
One such citation referred to a study whose findings had been explicitly compared to our findings.
