Anmerkungen / Anregungen aus USA:
Ah, the many uses of light. I had an especially hard time with this one in episode 4,
because all the obvious renderings sound like they must be flashlights or slide-show
equipment. "Photoprojector" was the only way I could think of that would be both literal
and unfamiliar, and also suggest that it might be a weapon. "Light cannon" is an existing
phrase, contrasted to "heavy cannon" (presumably Overkill?); it would invite misunderstanding.
A similar problem arises with "light defensive screens" for
"Lichtwehrabschirme". Here, I actually had to invent the adjective "photic".
I welcome suggestions.
And, in general, I think "light" as the first element in a chain of nouns in English
doesn't sound impressive or futuristic enough- -too ordinary. Lia used
"light message" for "Lichtspruch" in episode 5, but I went through and changed it to
"phototext". But it's not really text, is it? The message comes through as sound. So I
went back to "light message" for episode 4. "Photophone" would sound silly, I think;
"photologue" or "photolog" sounds like another kind of ship's log (i.e. "Bordbuch").
