Description
Personality
Young enough to still view life as something to enjoy, old enough to suspect he's lying to himself,
Auda, son of Iskander, has many sides to personality and he rarely shows them all to anyone. Relaxed
with his friends and idealistic among his vassals, Auda has largely avoided shouldering the responsibilities
that his father has tried to force upon him, with the noteable exception of being the presiding
People's Tribune during the riots of Vargo City.
There are aspects of his life he rarely shares with anyone, though clearly they have had an effect and
continue to color his actions. He rarely speaks of his time prior to coming to Vargo, and when he does
it is rarely more than to say the he was supposed to be a pilot in the al-Malik airforce during the
Emperor Wars, though he was not finished training before the war ended. He rarely speaks of the strange
company he keeps- He has altogether too many friends who claim to be al-Malik dervishes, many of whom
call upon his hospitality at the Serai of Tuscanice.
Though he is well known for travelling around Vargo in search for adventure and excitement, when at home
Auda spends an obsessive amount of time in exercise or enjoying company as diverse as the 'after work'
crowd in the Grinning Gannock to his weekly card game up on High Port Station with the Imperial Pilots.
Indeed, his network of friends extends through most of the guilds on planet, the Vargo City Guard, and all of
the Royal Houses. His easy-going manner, ability to look past ceremony when needed, and general desire to make
the best out of most situations tends to endear himself to many and offend few.
Noteworthy, however, is his complete lack of connection to the Universal Church of the Celestial Sun.
Auda may have a tiny drinking problem.
Relationships
Iskander (Auda abu Iskander the third)- Auda is Iskander's son, and is also bound by sworn oath of fealty. Auda tries very hard to always be a dutiful and obedient vassal and child in public.
Sauda - Auda's betrothed. From their initial meeting one might have guessed that the pair's marriage was going to be a loveless political union. The jury is still out here...
Isra - The long-time ward of Auda's father, Auda has never really known how to deal with the Lady Zaki. Their relationship has always been an akward one. Not friends, certainly, though Auda has always felt somewhat responsible for Isra's depression, and has attempted to exorcize that guilt by cheering up the al-Malik Lady. He has to date failed miserably, and a single outburst of frustration in the past seems to have doomed any chance of friendship between the pair.
Arie - Auda has always considered the Lady Arie Xanthippe among his friends, and even purchased her a tremendously ridiculous hat, having been told it was 'the latest fashion' (he later felt it necessary to apologize with a pair of shoes). Auda seems to consider Arie 'part of the family', despite her connection to the Court of the Serai being purely political.
Haroun - Auda considers Haroun a bit of an oddity, but the two seem to get along well enough. Auda's desire to avoid all things political results in him running in different circles than his father's mysterious vizier.
Aysel - Another of Auda's friends at the Serai, even though Aysel is no longer employed by Iskander.
Porter - Auda's preferred drinking buddy. Auda's desire to avoid politics in general seems mirrored by Porter's, and the pair seem to get along famously.
Kosar - One of Auda's old friends from before he arrived on Vargo. The pair have a history, and though Auda's nature seems at times directly opposite to Kosar's, the bond of friendship endures, in no small part to a shared sense of dark (and occasionally malicious) humor.
Tavish - When dealing with matters of Vargo City, Tavish is Auda's preferred second. The two became unlikely acquaintances some time back when Auda offered help to the VCG, and ever since the pair have worked together whenever the opportunity presents itself. The sharp class difference between the two, however, along with the inherent Vargen distrust of off-worlders does seem to keep the two from actually being 'friends'.
Devante - A friend, despite Iskander's tumultuous political relationship with House Hazat and specifically with Lord Devante.
Euan - A friend in House Li Halan.
Alane - A close friend and occasional protege, Auda is said to have flown into a rage upon hearing that Alane Tadakar was shot and presumed dead. Her return and subsequent avoidance of him has confused and concerned Auda, but he seems willing to give her time and space.
Charese - An Ukari pathfinder in Iskander's employ, there is no single other person more likely to be found travelling with Auda on one of his adventures into the distant lands of Vargo than Charese. She is a trusted friend and ally.
Michael - Auda has always considered Lord Southern Reaches a friend, despite however politics stood between his father and the Hawkwood Lord. But with distance and the unsettled accusations of one of Lord Michael's vassals against Auda, the relationship has cooled.
