A fairly enjoyable film slamming into the top 50 on imdb at #37 which is excessively high. I don't really see anything that special about it. It's all right but it doesn't stand out all that well from the crowd. Well maybe from the current crowd but when you compare to genius old films then it doesn't really stand a chance.
So why not? Well it's kind of a funny mix of gritty realism and ridiculously implausible situations. And um, it's a bit longer than it should be really. I arrived into it a little late. Maybe a couple of minutes but it still overstayed its welcome for me. Maybe it's partly because I really don't like movies about 'real life'. There's quite a lot of portrayal of real life struggle in India in this so that puts me off.
The love story payoff is highly enjoyable but clearly quite far fetched. Most of the time he spends getting the questions right are implausible but tempered slightly by one where he didn't know the answer to one of the questions on Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
A slight side point whilst my disorganised mind flips to it, is that the soundtrack had quite a lot of good music on it. A bit of MIA in particular is very welcome. Paper Planes making yet another film appearance but I can't seem to get tired of that track. There's another track used earlier on which sounds very much like MIA but I didn't recognise that. Plenty of other good stuff too if you like music of this type.
So yeah that's about it really. I liked it. Wouldn't ever want to see it again and people are getting a little bit too hyped up about it.
