Also known as 'Plague'. It's a very low budget Canadian creation. So these scientists create some bacteria that is supposed to be good for plants but it just so happens it kills humans. It escapes from the lab due to the ventilation system being built for a fiver by a few passing gypos that claimed to be workmen. Probably. So loads of people (at least 10) die from this deadly m3 virus whilst some other scientists try to control the outbreak and work on a cure. One scientist tells his wife to leave the country for London to get away from it. Unfortunately (curse their stupid luck!) some old scientist bloke from the facility happens to be on their flight and takes the bacteria with him. Also there's a woman from nearby the facility who turns out to be a carrier and runs around infecting everyone. Silly thing.
It's all really low key and obviously very low budget. But despite it being quite slow, I quite liked it. It was a pleasant film to watch late at night and most people involved are quite nice. It's not got the big spectacular drama of the likes of Outbreak but this only really makes it more realistic. There seemed to be some kind of political wranglings later on in the film which of course leads to cures not getting to people and the world being doomed. There's no big deal made of the fact that the only people with the cure end up locked in the facility never to get out, they just pretty much resign themselves to their fate which is kind of endearing. They have to cure to save humanity but they can't get it out there, oh well what can you do eh? Watch TV and see the end of the world whilst enjoying a nice hot cup of coffee maybe?
I paid 20p for this video from Oldcotes car boot sale which is probably about what it's worth. It's something to watch late at night if it happened to be on TV.
