I first saw this film at Hyde Park Picture House in Leeds, in the glory days of my friend Duncan at University. When everything was all wonderful and the Jan Doyle Band were crap in a funky skillo kind of way. So the film is associated with rather uncomfortable seats, being freezing cold as I stopped over at Duncan's house and generally happy times. The happy times in this film however are few and far between. There is much suffering for many people. In a thrilling and exciting kind of way though, natch.

If you are unfamiliar with the film, it's by the Wachowski brothers who did the Matrix and it's the story of a couple of qu("ite Homosexual" - Politically correct Ed) women who decide to steal two million dollars from the mafia. One of them, played by Jennifer Tilly, who is somewhat the gangster's moll type and the other played by Gina Gershon is a butch handy("person" - Politically correct Ed) type. They become involved after passing each other in the corridor of the appartment building both thing each other is a bit of alright. Jennifer Tilly sets out to seduce her and then formulates the plan to steal from her mafia boyfriend when an opportunity presents itself. Gina then hatches the cunning plan to do so. Which naturally goes horribly wrong and puts them both in jeopardy and tests the strength of their relationship.

The film is mainly remembered for some steamy sex scenes between Gina and Jennifer which is a bit of a shame as the film is really pretty well put together when it gets going. While the initial seduction is relevant to the film, it is a bit slow but the situations that develop when it gets into heist mode are really well thought out and put together brilliantly. It's impressive how well Gina Gershon plays the tough one when she's quite often associated with more feminine roles. Jennifer Tilly is just really playing her usual self but if you're good at it then it's all the more reason to cast you in such a role.

So there you go, one irrelevant paragraph, one about the plot and one saying it's a bit good. There's no wonder I'm not a professional reviewer. Still, if you don't mind steamy sex scenes between two women, there's great thriller waiting to be seen by you here. Well not here but probably at your house. Or maybe a friend's if they happen to have it and you're watching movies together one night. Maybe even in some acting class or something where you have study the roles to learn how to act or maybe.. (I think that's quite enough suggestions of how to see the film - Ed)
