Uzoman Tales

As told by Obi

LordObi often uses the tales of Anansi the Spider, Osebo the Jaguar, Mmoboro the Hornet, or Achi-cheri the Turtle, to emphasize his points in discussion or just to amuse those about him.

From InTheMorningLight

Obi frowns at Miho, but keeps his voice low, so as to not disturb Dina's Trump. "Once my father told me a story of Monkey and the Hornet. Anansi passed the two animals at the crossroads one bright morning. He was on an errand for the Orishi and was concerned for his children that were following him along the road. Anansi asked both Monkey and Hornet to lead his children back to their home in the jungle while he ran off on the gods' errand. Both Monkey and Hornet agreed to ensure that the children arrived safe.

"Along the way, they passed Hornet's nest and she decided to stop and speak with her family before continuing on to Anansi's home. She was concerned with the trip and if the children would make it safely. She worried about the weather and the trail they were planning and spent a good bit of time conferring."

"Monkey was sure that Anansi would return before they had gotten the children home and was worried about not fulfilling his promise. He shook Hornet's nest and Hornet's family became alarmed that they were being attacked. The guards streamed out and while Hornet had spoken of the children, she hadn't warned them that Monkey was there. At the sight of the hornet guards Monkey ran for the river, leaving Anansi's children alone. When he finally had dried off and returned, Hornet had already left with the children. As Monkey had feared Anansi did return before he had, but Hornet was there already with the children."

"Anansi tended to Monkey's stings and explained that while Hornet might do things differently, she was true to her word and no good can ever come from stirring Hornet's nest."

From ItsBeenAWhile

"Osebo thinks it's possible, but that perhaps his cousin Achi-cheri might be better for you." Miho might recall the story of the Leopard's Drum, in which the slow but sharp witted turtle Achi-cheri wins his hard shell.
