Drake is in his quarters when a knock comes at the door to advise him
that the time has come for those in the Royal Family of Amber to be
escorted to the throne room, to be received by Moire.
He walks past Obi's quarters. The doors are open, and a young Rebman
page is inside, peering around. Drake pauses to watch. Picking
something up off an end table, the page then makes to exit, closing
the door and heading away from the guest quarters they've been given.
Drake reaches out quickly, and neatly confiscates the object. It is a
note, addressed to Dina, and sealed. The page stammers an apology, but
Drake dismisses her. "I'll see that it's delivered."
The page hurries off. Looking up and down the corridor to make sure
the coast is clear, Drake breaks the seal, unfolds the letter, and
quickly reads it. Jamming it into his jacket pocket, Drake makes his
way to where the others have been put up.
Knocking softly at Corwin's door, Drake is met by his uncle in his
doorway. "I intercepted one of the staff taking this from Obi's room.
It was probably on it's way to the Queen."
Corwin glances at who it's addressed to, and then promptly reads it.
"Did you open it?" he asks.
Drake looks offended. "Did it stop you?"
Corwin is silent for a moment. "No. I found it this way."
"Then we're in agreement," Drake confirms.
"You don't have a problem with me.. giving her this?" Corwin poses.
"Yes, I do," Drake frowns. "But she needs to know doesn't she?"
Corwin nods, and tucks the letter in his jacket pocket. "Thanks." He
gestures down the corridor.. "Lets find the others. That way she has a
chance to at least read it first."
