Kamikaze Girls is a touching coming-of-age novel, which is set in the tiny rural town of Shimotsuma and features a snarky, bitchy Lolita girl and a tough biker chick (who actually rides a cheap scooter that doesn't go over 30 mph- you can start laughing now). Both of them, however, have soft nougaty centers, and despite their differences, by the end of the book they have found true love friendship with one another. Aww.

The movie version of this book is on crack, and features, among other things: projectile vomiting, random flying, people getting hit by cars on the highway and being relatively uninjured, people bursting into song over the cheap clothes they got from the Shimotsuma equivalent of Wal-Mart, random animated sequences, and a lot of overacting. (It's awesome, though.)

The aforementioned Lolita. Walking around in a zombie-infested swamp wearing a long, frilly dress and platform boots may be difficult and generally not a great idea, but she is willing to suffer for beauty. A++, Momoko.
