Earthbound is an SNES RPG with the most basic plot possible: "help! Aliens are invading Earth, and only the brave and inexplicably adolescent Chosen can stop them!" Unfortunately, it lacks an evil empire or weird religious symbolism; fortunately, instead it has humor, strangeness, and beating up stray dogs with baseball bats.

It's also notable for letting you input your favorite food and favorite thing, allowing a generation of adolescent boys to write "POOP" in both blanks and snicker.

Ness is just your average kid with guts, a baseball bat, and ridiculous psychic powers. He used to be here, back in the dreamtime, but then he fell into a hole and vanished. FUSHIGI MYSTERY?!

Jeff Andonuts is a science genius boy. He won the science fair (or would have, at least, if he hadn't been off shooting zombies for his psychic friends). In camp, he's just another freelance do-gooder and can usually be found in the hospital.
