Gümüslük Akademisi
I am reading the manifesto of Gümüslük Akademisi. Amaaaaazing!
"The master is nourished in the heart of communities with shared belief and discipline...
Master is a traveler, whose body is as light as that of migrant birds, whose soul is as solid as flint, and whose purpose is to turn life into a quest for truth, by bearing, however weighty, the privilege of recognizing the true workings of the natural world where everything perpetually changes, evolves and presents endless challenges; the purpose, nevertheless, is to think and perceive for the real as a life style.
The history of civilization had been written at those écoles where artists, thinkers, scientists lived together, where their ever-increasing reserve of experience and talent was passed on to their apprentices, thus keeping the original flame alive throughout the generations, since they provided home for alternative views to confront the official one, for dialog against monologue, for those who seek the truth as against the inertia of the status quo, for those who question the fundamentals against what is fundamentally imposed, for the silent to exercise their right to answer the garrulous and for those who produce against mere consumers.
The Gümüslük Academy proposes to operate as a "thought-farm" where arts, philosophy and the sciences are conjoined with nature... The Academy does not wish to dispense certificates. It aims rather to function as an independent école that integrates those disciplines pointing out new directions and possibilities for our global future, and with its workshops, research laboratories and educational units, with its open and covered meeting and exhibition areas, with its amphitheater, museum and library buildings, and with its park, pond and sculpture garden surrounding the living quarters, is designed as an arena of interaction and a spiritual centre of give and take where ideas are planted, solutions are generated and thinking is perceived as a way of life.
