The Era of Melagaunt
Passages taken from The Dark Babal: Thedi Thusteer, Sage and Archmage.
Date: Unknown
Aeons ago mankind ruled Mel'heron, alone.
The might of their numerous empires surpass all other races of the realm, and it remained this way for aeons to come, until the silver moon emerged: Gaunt {A warning??}, as it would later be named. No mortal knew were it came from, it just appeared next to Fae'he, on that fateful night.
The Dark Babal, the Era of Melagaunt, the Dark Saints War- it is known by a great many names for what was set in motion that night would changed the face of the realm forever.
The five gods; Sapherian, D'lam, Thrungeedia, Spelldar and even Vadriphose himself {It is argued that there were in fact six gods during this era; Chaosmous but he is omitted from most texts} who reigned over the plane were abruptly stricken down to mortal hood.
By no more than a single entity, he of which was known as Melagaunt {Described as a seven foot tall angelic being with pearl like skin and wings made of stained glass} declared war on the realm, the reasoning behind this insanity is still escapes us.
As Melagaunt surfaced he brought his army to battle all the races of the realm. These creatures were named the Dark Saints {Instead of a physical body made of muscle, bone, and blood, they have a ghost body made of transparent ectoplasm. They have no goal but that of there master}.
Mankind, whom reigned supreme in this era. Their cities mighty indeed; the centre of great magic and power. Their mages could not be matched and the knowledge housed within could not be rivalled. They alone, attempted to stop the Dark Saints, only to be brushed aside!
A perilous move they soon realised, this having nearly exterminated their entire race.
In their darkest hours; all races were unified with a purpose, all fought the armies of the God Slayer but they relentless, the realm appeared lost. Yet the tide was slowly turned as the gods themselves in their mortal form united together for their final battle.
After a turbulent start, the gods entrusted each other, no longer wary of a stray attack from one another ensuing an epic crusade, driving back the Dark Saints, and finally in turn defeating Melagaunt imprisoning him within a statue of his own likeness, forever.
The battle came at a great cost, the gods had been badly injured. Turning to each other realising their victory, the five gods as said to have smiled sincerely, before fall to the ground bound in an eternal slumber.
During this time the fellow races of the realm sought to gain a greater foothold over Mel'heron, and the now shattered human empires. Most turned against what remained of mankind, many battles were fought and the humans were crushed to the edge of annihilation.
In their final hour the humans, somehow, found an ally. The Grenns, a nomadic, honour bound but warlike race came to there aid and with there joint might they fought back the Falighns, the Greenskins {Orcs, goblins and such}, the Elves, and the Runics.
None know of why the Grenns decided to aid the mankind {It is theorised that the five gods had awoken for a moment and asked the Grenns to save the first born of the realm; humans}. Thousands of years have come and gone, yet the humans have never regained their dominance.
A balance of the races now exists in the realm of Mel'heron.
For now.
