Who we are:

The DM Staff is a group of individuals who have volunteered their time, creativity, effort, and in some cases, money to make Bruehawk's Server an enjoyable place to play for everyone.

What's our purpose:

The DM Staff exists to enrich the playing experience for players, maintain the integrity of the Mel'Haron Role-Play world's history and culture, ensure that proper etiquette, respect and consideration for all players is maintained, expand the world of Mel'Haron by creating new and exciting places for play, and enforce the rules which maintain game integrity and fairness.

The DMs do not exist to:

Make a character's life miserable - hardships for your character are part of the world, and should be played as such (see below)..

Dictate how you play your character

Compete with the Players for experience, rewards or recognition

What the DM staff has the right to do:

The DM's word is Law and the DM Staff has been entrusted with the well-being of Bruehawk's. As such, DMs are trusted with their discretion in all game-related matters.

You, the player, play your character. The DM plays the rest of the world. The DM Staff is at liberty to initiate any conceivable action to fulfill their plot agenda.

Anything that occurs to your character as a result of DM action is in-character, and a function of the world your character lives in. Just as we have to endure occasional changes, injustice or oddity in the real world, so will your character.

Take the opportunity to role-play your character's response to enrich your playing experience, and move on. If you feel you have a legitimate concern, please refer to the Policies document for the procedure to have your issue addressed.

How DMs will handle Rules Violations:

Violations of the rules are dealt with in a variety of ways, from talking out problems to banning of keys/players or deletion of characters.

The DM staff does *not* exist to police the world or levy punishment - actions which deplete the enjoyment of everyone. However, when required, it is done in order to benefit Bruehawk's as a whole and to run a honest game.

In order to do this, and as a last resort, we reserve the right to remove or boot any character, or restrict or deny any player access to Bruehawk's, with or without cause, if we determine that it is in the best interest of the server and the integrity of the game.

DMs and their characters:

Once a player has committed to being a DM, their player characters become of secondary importance to the DM. DM characters are not in competition with player's characters for rewards, experience or attention at that point. The DM staff is expected to keep their PC's interests at a lower priority than their responsibilities as a DM.

DMs will play their mortal characters for a variety of reasons: to experience the world as a PC in order to enhance their knowledge of the world to benefit the player community, find bugs and test areas, further plot lines or act as NPCs, or just to enjoy the playing experience for themselves.

As such, DM PCs will not divulge privileged information on areas and items. Nor will they be judged with all of the same standards as a normal player. In some cases, those standards will be more stringent than those applied to the normal player, in others, more lenient.

In either case, DM's PCs will receive both considerations and expectations beyond what normal player characters do - and though a player may only see the benefits, there are disadvantages as well. Please consider this before making complaints of favoritism or "cheating" where a DM's PC is involved.

However, just as any other player, courtesy is expected of the DM staff - regardless of how they access the server. Should you feel that a DM has been abusive or harassing, voice your complaint to a different DM, and follow the procedures outlined above.

Additionally, DMs are expected to maintain separation of their PCs from their role as DM - as such, a DM should not allow events which affect their PCs to influence their ability to DM objectively or be taken out-of-character. This does not mean a DM's PC used in a plot or during role-play will not react or act logically and true to their character, rather, the DM will not use their PCs as personal motivation and will keep events IC.
