a Gondolic Harp

lute127
an old lute
The lute is an old and valuable one. The body of the instrument is of a light brown wood. The rounded back is ribbed but otherwise unadorned. The front is inlaid with mother-of-pearl around the carved circle of ivory that covers the hole under the strings. The twelve strings run over ivory frets on the long, dark wooden neck to pegs set at a right-angle to the neck.

Text
Trigger
The Minstrel ceases his singing for a moment, and speaks to you:
"Friend of mine, from cities west,
Do you know of the Bard, Mercinae's Best,
Inside his house in the chamber of song,
Lie a harp and lute for which I long.".
greet minstrel
The Minstrel titters and recites a limerick he has written:
"There was a young man from the East,
Whose desire was not met in the least,
  Lyres, pipes and flute,
  Serpents, drums and lutes,
All he wanted, yet none he ever got hold of.".
He blushes apologetically about the final line and ask you whether you have any instruments.
greet minstrel
You pluck the strings of the lute and as if possessed by a spirit greater than your own you begin to play with great skill. You begin to sing the tale of Pallas and his lost sister Cassiandora, emotion rising as the song becomes sadder and their doom approaches. You finish the ballad with tears rolling
play lute (success)
You are unable to strike up a decent melody on the harp and before long the bard who lives nearby calls in to you to stop.
play harp (failed)
The Minstrel turns a cartwheel as you hand him the lute. He spins wildly with his new possession and showers you with gratitude.
give lute to minstrel
The Minstrel of Eastpoint hands 70 pieces of gold into your possession.
give lute to minstrel (reward)
