Possible openings/other questions/rumors:
Montana State U may have an opening for Mandarin this fall.
Did NYU hire anyone last year?
A: I do not think so. (You mean the non-TT language position?) NYU is doing a new search now.
Q2: No, I meant the TT Modern Chinese lit position. I was wondering if they hired anyone last year.
A2: I did not see any new Modern Chinese Lit person when I was there this past spring.
A3: NYU has a visiting professor in Modern Lit now, with publications galore. Currently visiting, perhaps
since Sep 2007. I guess NYU chooses to recruit a short-term visiting prof with established status in
Modern Lit rather open a new TT line.
...........
No, it is more likely because the job was offered to someone last year who rejected it and went to a topCanadian university.
Did Reed college hire anyone last year? I saw the same opening.
A: I do not think so. I guess the Reed search last year was canceled (reason unknown; maybe no fund to hire).
Several searches of several schools (both Uni and Colleges) were canceled last year. Such as Hamilton.
So Hamilton is re-doing a TT search now.
A2: Reed DID hire someone last year. The person whom they hired, X-X-X-X-X-X-X, was a visiting assistant
professor there last year. Thus the reason it looks like they didn't make a hire is because the faculty didn't change
between last year and this year. The position that's being advertised this year is due to a new TT line.
As for Hamilton, the reason they didn't make a hire last year is because the person to whom they offered the
job turned them down; I don't know if they couldn't find any acceptable alternates, or if they suddenly lost the
funds, but they did intend to make a hire.
QUESTION:
Is the following search moving at all? Or, reopened?
University of Mississippi (Assistant Professor, Chinese; tenure-track) Job description
(any move?)
